It is certainly advisable to clean your tank and coil before switching flavours:

• Vape until your tank is almost empty to avoid wasting juice but without allowing your coil to become dry.
• Remove your tank from your device and then remove the coil from the tank.
• Empty the tank of any remaining e liquid.
• Rinse the tank and coil with warm water.
• Shake both pieces to remove excess water.
• Leave the tank and pod to dry. It is important that no moisture remains as this will impact your flavour. Drying could take up to 24 hours.
• Reinstall your coil and attach your tank to your battery.
• Top up with your new juice.

Clearly, the disadvantage here is that you can’t vape while your tank is drying. But you will discover the solution to that problem later in the guide.

What about refillable vape pods?

There are two types of refillable vape pod, those with built-in coils and those that feature removeable coils.

Built-in coils cannot be removed and so you don’t have the option to clean them. For this reason, it is best not to introduce a new flavour to your pod. Coils don’t last forever and so you should wait until you need to install a new pod to your e cig. Simply vape until your coil gives up the ghost, discard you pod, install a new one and then switch flavours.

Pods with removeable coils can be cleaned in the same way as a vape tank and so enable you to switch flavours before the coil dies.

Are prefilled pods the perfect solutions? Prefilled vape pods are certainly convenient. You don’t need to concern yourself with topping up your pods or changing their coils and you can switch flavours whenever the mood takes you.

Prefilled pods definitely come into their own if you fancy changing flavour and you are out of the house. It simply isn’t practical to disassemble a vape tank and clean it when you are on the go.

But, and it is a big but, prefilled pods are more expensive options than those you can refill. They are certainly far more costly to use in the long run. To make matters worse, your flavour choices will be restricted to those that feature in the pods compatible with your device.

You need to ask yourself what you value most, convenience and hassle-free flavour changes or your hard-earned cash and variety.

Should you stick with disposables? No! Disposable vapes are very costly and they are disastrous for the environment. A new plastic mountain is emerging courtesy of disposable vapes and their batteries can cause fires at landfill sites or in transit.

Disposables are not the solution to anything, and you will find that an entry level refillable, rechargeable starter kit is as easy to use.

Is spare equipment the answer?

Yes! It will be far cheaper over time to invest in spare tanks or spare refillable pods than to vape using prefilled pods.

If you change your tank or pod when you want to switch flavours, there will be no danger of mixing your juices. Better still, using your spare will mean that you can continue vaping while you clean and dry your other tank.

At the very least, keep a supply of spare coils to hand. You will need them anyway as no coil will last forever. With replacement coils to call on, you could simply wipe out your tank and change the coil rather than rinsing both pieces when switching flavours.

Is it worth switching e liquid flavours?

Variety is the spice of life and so it is beneficial to change flavours from time to time. In any case, you can’t know what your favourite flavours are until you have tried several different blends. There are always exciting new options coming to market and it would be a shame not to sample a few.

It is also worth considering that while tobacco flavours will help smooth your transition from smoking to vaping, you probably won’t want to vape them forever. There will come a time when your taste buds will start yearning for something new rather than that familiar tobacco taste.

We should also mention that certain e liquids and flavours can be problematic for some vapers and this could mean that switching juice becomes a necessity. Menthol does not agree with many vapers’ throats and high PG juices can cause a minority of vapers to cough or experience a dry throat.
